Siwa Oasis Desert Expedition
Journey to Egypt's most remote oasis — the Oracle of Amun ruins, Cleopatra's Bath, sand boarding on the Great Sand Sea, and stargazing in absolute Saharan silence.
Egypt
Egypt's most remote and mystical destination — deep in the heart of the Sahara
About This Destination
Siwa is an isolated oasis deep in the Sahara, closer to Libya than to Cairo, where 23,000 Siwans maintain a distinct culture, language, and way of life largely unchanged for centuries. Alexander the Great made the seven-day desert crossing in 331 BC to consult the famous Oracle of Amun here — the ruins of his destination still stand among date palm groves and salt lakes of dreamlike beauty. Siwa's mud-brick fortress, natural freshwater springs, and position at the edge of the Great Sand Sea make it one of Africa's most remarkable destinations. Reaching Siwa requires effort, but the reward is a destination that feels genuinely untouched.

Discover
From ancient monuments to hidden natural wonders — these are the experiences that define a journey here.
The atmospheric ruins where Alexander the Great came in 331 BC to be confirmed as the son of Zeus-Amun and legitimized as pharaoh of Egypt. The crumbling mud-brick structure rises from a rocky outcrop among date palms, overlooking the salt lakes of the Siwa depression.
The haunting mud-brick remains of Siwa's 13th-century fortified town, dissolved over several nights of extraordinary rain in 1926. The melted towers and walls now rise from the center of modern Siwa like a sandcastle at high tide — eerie, beautiful, and utterly unique.
A naturally occurring freshwater spring pool where crystal-clear water bubbles up from deep within the Sahara at a constant 30°C. Supposedly a bathing spot of Cleopatra herself, it remains perfectly drinkable and is a refreshing oasis stop on any Siwa itinerary.
One of the world's largest sand deserts, stretching from Siwa into Libya. Towering dunes over 100 meters high rise in every direction; the silence is absolute. Jeep excursions into the Great Sand Sea for sand boarding, fossil hunting, and desert sunset camps are the highlight of any Siwa visit.
A serene freshwater lake set within a larger salt lake, reached by a narrow causeway lined with date palms. The water is warm, clear, and surrounded by dunes — a natural swimming pool in the middle of the desert. At sunset, the light here is extraordinary.
